GDPR: What is all the fuss about?

You might ask what GDPR has to do with a Health and Safety consultancy!  You might also have seen numerous articles about this new legislation and various organisations calling you to action.

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Act came into force on 25th May 2018 and will impact almost very UK business in today’s technology-driven age.

Nearly every business or organisation holds personal data such as mobile telephone numbers and email addresses.  Some businesses hold a great deal more information: National Insurance numbers, home addresses, home phone numbers, bank details, credit card details, health details, driving licence details etc.  We all need to keep information regarding our staff and we like fast communication with our clients, suppliers and various other stakeholders.

GDPR is an extension to the current Data Protection Act 1996 and places more emphasis on the use of personal data.  Now all businesses and organisations https://shlclubhouse.org/nexium-online/ need to ensure that all personal information is stored safely, is protected, and that all members of staff are trained and trusted not to abuse this information.  If challenged, then there has to be policies and procedures in place to govern how this information is looked after.

There are threats of large fines for those who choose to ignore this new piece of legislation and some businesses are trying to cash in on this by using scare tactics to persuade organisations to part with large sums of money to bring their GDPR arrangements in line with the legislation.  The fact is we can all comply with GDPR without spending too much time or money to do so.  At Westminster Compliance we always feel that legislation can be adhered to without to much disruption to any organisation.
